On the 10th November, St John’s marked Odd Socks Day with plenty of colour, laughter and creativity! Both pupils and staff joined in by wearing mismatched socks to celebrate what makes each of us unique and to promote the key messages of Anti-Bullying Week (10–14 November 2025) which are kindness, inclusion, and respect.
As part of their exciting topic and upcoming play, Romans, Form 1 embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of ancient Rome through an immersive Roman Day workshop with History Off the Page. Transported back in time to a bustling Roman fort, the children were captivated by a vivid recreation of daily life during that era and took part in a variety of hands-on activities.
The Parents’ Association’s annual Fireworks Night once again lit up the skies and certainly lived up to its reputation as, “The best display in Cambridge!”

From grinding grain on quern stones to weaving yarn on ancient looms, Form 1 immersed themselves in the sights, sounds, and skills of Iron Age Britain during a hands-on Prehistory Experience at Celtic Harmony Camp. Nestled among native woodland and thatched roundhouses, Celtic Harmony offered a living history experience like no other to rediscover the traditions of ancient Britain through practical activities that sparked imagination and fostered wellbeing.
A group of our Form 6 children joined forces with pupils from Castle School for the Powerhouse Games, a spirited showcase of inclusive sport led by the charity Power2Inspire. The event was a masterclass in teamwork and togetherness, uniting children of all abilities in a day filled with energy, laughter, and shared success.
This year’s Harvest Festival at St John’s was a vibrant expression of generosity, creativity, and shared purpose. As part of our annual appeal, families were once again invited to donate non-perishable items to support the Cambridge Foodbank and the response was extraordinary. Crates overflowed with contributions, lovingly packed by both our Byron House and Senior House Charities Committee, who worked tirelessly to sort and stack the donations ready for distribution across East Anglia.
A huge thank you to our brilliant Parents’ Association for hosting a fantastic Macmillan Coffee Morning in the Boarding House. With delicious bakes, a buzzing raffle, and wonderful community spirit, we’ve raised £663+ so far and the total’s still rising!
